One of the most lusted-over Caribbean islands, St. Lucia can be anything you want it to be – a tranquil beach vacation, lush botanical waterfall hunt, or volcano-exploring adventure. Regardless of the vacation you’re looking to have, there are a few experiences that shouldn’t be missed!

 

Things To Do in St. Lucia

 

Pigeon Island National Park

If pigeon watching isn’t exactly your idea of a good time, don’t worry – this national park’s name is a bit misleading! Pigeon Island, in the northern region of the island, is a quiet place to stop, swim, and take in the beautiful views. For those of you looking to pick up on some of the local culture, you can also learn a thing or two about the island’s history and explore the 18th century military ruins.

There is a cafe on the island, but I definitely recommend you bring your own water.

 

Castries Market

This open-air market in St. Lucia’s capital is full of a variety of food and souvenirs, and has actually been rated the #3 food market in the world by National Geographic! Locally caught fish, spices, fresh fruit and an abundance of coconuts are tempting enough to draw even the laziest of vacationers out of their resort and onto the streets of Castries.

The Market is closed on Sundays, so plan your trip for Friday or Saturday when the food and number of vendors are at their peak.

 

Hike Gros Piton

The bird’s-eye view from the top of Gros Piton is unbeatable, and absolutely worth the challenging climb! Go early in the morning, as it will take you approx. 1.5 to 2 hours to reach the peak and you will likely avoid some of the island’s humid heat.

Expect to pay about $30 for this guided hike, and make reservations ahead of time if you can.

 

Scuba or Snorkel at Ti Kaye Resort

Ti Kaye Resort is located on a marine reserve that’s perfect for snorkeling and diving amidst untouched, vibrant coral and sea life. If you are not staying at the resort, be sure to book this ahead of time. Several companies provide snorkel/dive tours here. Ask your hotel for recommendations or compare options online.

 

Tet Paul Nature Trail

This 45-minute easy/moderate hike is an easier alternative to hiking The Pitons, plus you get the added bonus of a spectacular view of both! Pack light and don’t forget your camera; views from the top are picture-perfect, so it’s worth bringing along your DSLR.

 

Sulfur Springs Park

Sulfur Springs brag about of being the only drive-through volcano in Caribbean, so this is definitely a must-see while you’re in the area. The 30-minute guided tour will take you to the top of the volcano, and the sulfur mineral bath afterwards will feel like a spa treatment.

Keep in mind, this popular site can get crowded. If you plan on taking the tour before heading to the sulfur bath, go early in the morning or an hour or two before closing.

 

Fresh Coconuts

Before leaving the island of St. Lucia, you must buy fresh coconut water on the side of the road. Coconuts cost $1 each and you can get a 2 liter water bottle filled with fresh coconut for only $4 US!

 

Where to Stay in St. Lucia

I recommend splitting your trip up between the north and the south portion of the island in order to take advantage of the experiences both areas have to offer.

The Landings Resort & Spa: The Landings Resort & Spa is located on the northern end of St. Lucia and is within walking distance to Pigeon Island. This luxury resort has one of the prettiest beaches on the island!

Ti Kaye Resort: On the southern end, the picturesque Ti Kaye Resort is an adults-only eco-friendly resort known for its amazing snorkeling and scuba diving. If you are looking for a quiet getaway with your loved one, this is the place!
