Puerto Plata Photos That Will Inspire Your Next Visit
The old town of Puerto Plata is home to many attractions. A few of our favorites include the tobacco shop where you can buy cigars and Mamajuana, and you can also watch the process in which they make both of these.
Parque Central contains a unique Victorian style gazebo, and was full of Christmas decorations when we visited during the holidays. It also has its fair share of locals looking to make a buck in exchange for being your guide for the day.
Mercado Viejo (Old Market) and Mercado Nuevo (New Market) are a few of the other sites that attract visitors. We took a guagua from Cabarete to Puerto Plata and here are a few of the highlights of our day.

Hello. Ive been living in PP for a year now and if I May Ill give you my opinion.
Yes PP has an old town but it is not much to look at.
Cabarete is about one hour away from PP and another from 27 falls . but its mostly tourists , restaurants on the beach and yes water sports are best there .
I do recommend taking the cable car in PP its about 10$ per person but the view is fantastic and they have a nice garden to visit.
2 things not to do. Dont go on cloudy and dont eat at the restaurant there.
If youd rather stay at PP i recommend playa dorada . i hope i was of some help .
Hi Christy. I was hoping to get your advice. I’m going to DR specifically for the 27 waterfalls. I have an option of crashing in Puerta Plata or Cabarete. Sicnce you’ve been to both, which would you recommend for a stay? Which one is less touristy? Are all the water sports just in Cabarete? Is there really an old town in Puerta Plata like you would find in Santo Domingo?
