Staying at the JW Marriott Guanacaste Resort in Costa Rica

Feeling those winter blues yet? It might be time to head down to Costa Rica for some sunshine and relaxation. I can’t say enough good things about my recent time at the JW Marriott Guanacaste Resort & Spa — truly an idyllic vacation in paradise!

The Hotel

Situated on the Western peninsula of Costa Rica, the resort overlooks the Pacific Ocean and has stunning views of the year-round gorgeous sunsets!

The hotel is easily accessible, only a short 40-minute ride from Tamarindo Airport or a 1.5-hour drive from Liberia Airport (they even provide airport transfers if you’d rather not take a taxi or rent a car). Upon arrival, you’re greeted by welcoming staff with a fresh juice and cold hand towel.

Also, it’s worth mentioning that there absolutely no mosquitos at the resort — I didn’t get a single bite, which is unheard of is in the Costa Rican climate! Not only are the resort grounds pristine but they’re also sprayed with bug and mosquito repellent, which made for a truly relaxing and hassle-free stay.

 

The Rooms

Even the hotel’s average rooms will meet your highest expectations of tropical luxury, though their suites look like something straight out of a magazine!

Floor-to-ceiling windows that open up to the outdoors come standard in every room, as does an elegant marble bathroom with oversized soaking tub. To top it off, you get your choice of an unobstructed view of the garden, pool, or ocean.

Needless to say, there’s no chance of disappointment.

 

The Restaurants

Staying at resort on vacation doesn’t mean forfeiting awesome international cuisine!

There’s a variety of food and restaurants to choose from — 8, in fact — on the resort grounds, from Italian to Asian to seafood and a steakhouse. There’s even a pool- and ocean-front grill and cocktail bar, serving all of your favorite tropical drinks and even fresh coconut water (my favorite!).

 

Activities

One thing the JW Marriott Guanacaste is certainly not lacking is a choice of activities to fill your days with fun.

The pool is open 24 hours/day, and I highly recommend booking an appointment at the spa; a day of body scrubs, time in the sauna and even massage lessons is unbeatable. The Hacienda Pinilla 18-hole golf course literally adjoins the beach, and is another way to spend an enjoyable day on the grounds.

If you’re looking for adventure, you’ll also have the opportunity take surf lessons, kayak, zipline through the trees or go horseback riding. Whether you decide to relax poolside or spend your time in Costa Rica’s beautiful natural environment, you’re ensured nothing but a good time.
